Meth is also known as crank, chalk, crystal, tweak, speed and ice just to list a few.
When crystal meth is taken by mouth, the effects may last 6 to 8 hours. When it is smoked or injected, the effects can last 10 to 12 hours.
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2008 showed that the number of past-month meth users age 12 and older decreased by over half between 2006 and 2008. The same survey found that current (past-month) users were numbered at 731,000 in 2006, 529,000 in 2007, and 314,000 in 2008.
Meth addiction costs Americans an estimated $484 billion each year. This amount includes healthcare costs (and abuses of that system), lost job wages, traffic accidents, crime and the associated criminal justice system costs.
