Today, meth has become more popular than cocaine among persons 18 years and younger. A recent study reported that teenagers perceive meth as safer, longer lasting and easier to buy than cocaine.
When a meth user crashes after binging on meth they go into an agitated depression, sometimes accompanied by an urge for more meth. Eventually these feelings give way to lethargy, followed by a long deep sleep. When the meth user finally wakes their depression returns - this is a time when the potential for suicide is high.
Meth use during pregnancy can have serious complications for the unborn child. It can cause a reduction in blood flow to the fetuss brain, cause the placenta to pull away from the uterine wall and slow the overall growth of the unborn baby.
Signs of meth addiction include the user becoming careless about their appearance and overall physical wellbeing. Often meth addiction will quickly transform a normal looking person into what appears to be a vagrant or homeless person.
Meth abuse can cause increased heart rate and blood pressure and irreversible damage to blood vessels in the brain, producing strokes.
