The Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs collects client data from all publicly monitored treatment providers in California. The percent of individual clients under 21 years old admitted with a primary meth problem increased from 15.8 percent of admissions in State Fiscal Year 2000-2001 to 24.7 percent in State Fiscal Year 2004-2005. Further, female youth clients admitted with a primary methamphetamine problem increased from 25.8 percent in State Fiscal Year 2000-2001 to 35.7 percent in State Fiscal Year 2004-2005.
Meth users who have become addicted to the drug will experience violent behavior, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, and psychotic features, including paranoia, aggression, visual and auditory hallucinations, mood disturbances, and delusions.
Some meth users have reported remaining paranoid, delusional, apathetic, and socially withdrawn for weeks after their last dose of meth.
When meth is cooked inside a home it will contaminate the floors, walls, ceilings, work surfaces, furniture, paneling, carpeting, wallpaper, blinds, drapes, kitchen appliances, light fixtures, drains, plumbing fixtures, ceiling fans, vent fans, air and heating vents, toys and clothing just to list a few.
When a drug user initially takes meth the drug sends a message to the pleasure center in their brain. They will feel alert, full of energy and self-confident because their brain is releasing dopamine - a brain chemical that carries messages between brain cells.
