The longer a person abuses meth, the more they need, even to the point of depriving themselves of basic needs such as food and sleep, in order to keep administering the drug to feed their addiction.
Today, meth has become more popular than cocaine among persons 18 years and younger. A recent study reported that teenagers perceive meth as safer, longer lasting and easier to buy than cocaine.
The DEA is reporting that there has been a dramatic decrease in illegal meth labs. However, they are pointing out that a larger amount of more potent/pure meth is being smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico.
When meth is combined with heroin it is known as a "speedball."
Here in the United States, some parts of the country are seeing an increase in the number of Hispanic and Native American meth users. However, whites are still the most common meth users.
