Users who inject or smoke meth experience an intense pleasurable sensation known as a "rush" or a "flash." This effect is created due to the drug triggering the release of high levels of dopamine in the brain.
There was an estimated 731,000 current (past month) meth users over the age of 12 in 2006.
A majority of meth users take the drug in combination with alcohol and marijuana.
Because meth causes drastic changes in the users brain it is hard for them to stand still or focus on any one thing for an extended period of time. They may appear jittery or even frenzied and wind up speaking jumbled nonsense.
When meth users repeatedly abuse meth it weakens the dopamine release mechanism in their brain causing them to rely on meth to feel normal.
