When meth users repeatedly abuse meth it weakens the dopamine release mechanism in their brain causing them to rely on meth to feel normal.
Crystal meth labs produce strong odors similar to that of nail polish remover. A gross and bizarre way of creating meth has surfaced called Urine Extraction Labs or Pee Labs. Meth users attempt to extract meth from their urine or other meth users urine. This dangerous way of creating meth can also cause the spread of diseases that are concentrated and passed through the urine.
The Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs collects client data from all publicly monitored treatment providers in California. The percentage of Caucasian clients with meth as their primary problem decreased steadily from 61.4 percent in State Fiscal Year 2000-2001 to 55.1 percent in State Fiscal Year 2004-2005. Further, the percent of Hispanic clients with a primary meth addiction problem increased steadily from 26 percent in State Fiscal Year 2000-2001 to 35.7 percent in State Fiscal Year 2004-2005.
