The National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2008 showed that the number of past-month meth users age 12 and older decreased by over half between 2006 and 2008. The same survey found that current (past-month) users were numbered at 731,000 in 2006, 529,000 in 2007, and 314,000 in 2008.
Meth users who take the drug in high-doses or long binges are susceptible to stimulant psychosis. If this happens the psychotic user may feel intensely paranoid, hear voices, and experience bizarre delusions. They may feel that other people are talking about them or following them.
Crystal meth is a cheap street drug making it dangerously appealing to teens but because of its' black market nature you are never getting the same thing twice. Crystal meth activates the central nervous system and stimulates the production of two neurotransmitters, norepinephrine and dopamine.At low doses, it boosts alertness and blocks hunger and fatigue. At high doses it produces a "rush" feeling of euphoria that can last for more than twelve hours.
Recently, meth has a new look and taste as meth cooks are now adding coloring and flavoring to the drug. Experts believe people between ages 18 to 25 are the most likely to use flavored forms of meth.
