Meth abuse and addiction takes a toll on the user socially, physiologically, economically, and environmentally.
In South Dakota, 8% of the adult men in the SD Dept. of Corrections between July 2007 and July 2008 were addicted to meth.
Scientists have estimated that as much as 50% of the dopamine-producing cells in the users brain are damaged after they use meth for a prolonged period of time. The same study found that serotonin-containing nerve cells may be damaged even more extensively than their dopamine-producing cells.
Over the past decade the use of crystal meth had produced staggering results. A research conducted by NSDUH, noted that over 10.4 million people over 12 years have tried crystal meth at some point in their lives.
Prescription meth is only available through a doctors prescription and cannot be refilled.
