Even though methamphetamine can be prescribed by a doctor, its medicinal uses are limited and the doses that are prescribed are much lower than those typically abused. Medical methamphetamine is a Schedule II drug and is available only through a prescription that cannot be refilled.

Some meth addicts feel the sensation of bugs crawling under their skin. Doctors have labeled this formication but meth users typically call it crank bugs.
Babies born to meth addicted mothers will act like premature infants even if they are born full-term. They will have trouble sucking and swallowing, sensitivity to touch, shaking or tremors, and often demonstrate abnormal reflexes and extreme irritability.
