When meth is made inside a residence it can render the home uninhabitable. During the process of making meth chemical vapors permeate the walls and carpets of houses and buildings. When meth labs are discovered in private residences it is up to the state and local police to handle the clean-up. Today, experts state that more women are developing problems with meth than cocaine.
It is estimated that nearly half of all the major crimes in the United Sates can be attributed to meth and other drugs of addiction. This statistic is based on the fact that at least half of the suspects arrested for violent crimes (i.e. homicide and assault) were using meth or another drug at the time of their arrest.
As a meth user continues to take the drug their behavior becomes unpredictable. They may be friendly and calm one moment and then become angry and terrified the next.
White phosphorus with sodium hydroxide can produce poisonous phosphine gas, usually as a result of overheating red phosphorus, plus white phosphorus can autoignite and blow up the meth lab. In addition to phosphine and phosphorus, various hazardous vapors may be associated with a meth lab, such as chloroform, ether, acetone, ammonia, hydrochloric acid, methylamine, iodine, hydroiodic acid, lithium or sodium, mercury, and hydrogen gas.
